How old do you have to be to apply for the Dance4 CAT?
We are actively recruiting students that will be in school year 10 or 11 in September 2009, however applications are accepted outside this age range in certain circumstances.
Does it matter if you haven’t had a lot of experience in dance?
We are looking for exceptional potential, so it is not necessary to have had lots of experience already. We want to see if you can demonstrate the creativity, dedication and enthusiasm to pursue a career in dance.
What about school?
Dance4 CAT is designed to fit around your schoolwork, and in the first year you will only need to attend all day Saturday and holiday intensives so you should still have plenty of time to do your homework.
What about the other dance classes that I already do?
It is important that students continue with a range of other activities, including other dance styles. You will however, need to be able to attend all the classes on the scheme, and need to be realistic about what you do and how you manage your time.
I like dancing, but I am not sure yet whether I would like to pursue it as a career. Should I apply?
If you don’t think you could commit the time and effort it takes, this is probably not the right course for you but don’t stop dancing this is one of many pathways into a career in dance. See our Youth Dance pages to find out more ways to get involved.
What will I have to do at the audition?
The first audition will consist of practical dance sessions containing creative work and contemporary technique. Prospective students will then be invited back for the second stage containing more practical and an interview.
What is covered by the cost of the course?
The cost of the course includes provision on the Dance4 CAT, theatre trips and medical support. More information about the financial side of the scheme can be found in the Costs & Funding section or on the Music and Dance Scheme website: www.dcsf.gov.uk/mds and on the Costs and Funding page.
Does the course only last for a year?
Students are assessed continually throughout their time on the course and we hope to be able to support them right through to the time that they go on to further vocational training. However, if we or the student decide that the course is no longer right for them, the student is positively supported off the course and are directed to other progression routes.
