A group of exciting, diverse dance & performance artists come together for a unique insight into the world of dance improvisation. Drop in throughout the session to watch a range of individual and group improvised dances.
Nottingham and Berlin based dance artist Gabriele Reuter is a regular performer and facilitator in improvisation events in London and Berlin. Her performing, teaching and choreographic work is based on a continuous interest in improvisation; since January 2008 she has been involved in the programming and organisation of the monthly improvisation platform Freistil (Freestyle) at Tanzfabrik Berlin.
Jamie McCarthy has played, written and improvised music in a wide range of styles, with musical roots in pop and Irish folk music, he studied music at Leicester Polytechnic. He has worked extensively in dance, theatre, TV and radio and until recently Jamie was Head of Music at London Contemporary Dance School. He also currently performs with the Canadian Indie Band The Hidden Cameras and his own band Dog of Hearts. .

Over the last 14 years Pete Shenton has developed a national reputation as a choreographer, writer, performer and teacher in dance and dance theatre. Pete is Co-Artistic Director of New Art Club and has been touring nationally and internationally with their critically acclaimed shows for over 7 years.
Sally Doughty has been performing, teaching and choreographing for 20 years. She has worked with some of the country’s leading dance artists, as well as co-running her own dance companies. She has taught, performed and is published internationally. Sally has a fascination for all things improvised and has developed a framework for analysing the form to enhance student learning. Sally is Principal Lecturer in Dance at De Montfort University, Leicester.

His choreographies have included site-specific investigations, screendance, installation, webart, and more conventional black box works. Improvisation Workshop with Gabriele Reuter

Level: Advanced - Ideal for dance and theatre students, experienced movers and improvisers.
Following on from Friday Light Night performance, Gabriele will be sharing some of the methods and tools that inform her work in both improvised performance and choreography. The session will explore a selection of key improvisation practices and scores for performance, both for group and solo settings.
There are limited spaces available for this workshop, so booking is essential.
