On Sunday 28 September four members of the Dance4 running team ran the full Robin Hood Marathan (that's 13 miles) with another two holding court in the fun run. It was a gloriously sunny day, the marathon attracted over 14000 runners and the team did us proud.

Thank you so much to all those who have been so generous with your donations, it made ALL the difference to the runners on the day (see quotes below). We have reached just over 40% of our target in just over a week, which is incredible. At the time of writing our total is £819 and still climbing. There is still time to sponsor us as we do our best to make it to our target which we'll use to continue our incredibly important work with young disabled dancers.

£2000 is our target, so please help us raise this and more to support this inspirational work. You can go to the Just Giving fundraising link here... The marathon is 21 kilometers (just over 13 miles) and the team definitely did finish 'within/around/close by/in the area of' just two hours(ish).

What the team are saying AFTER the marathon:

Becky Aram (Programme Producer): "It was tough! Harder than I imagined maybe due to the fact it felt like a hot summers day! I had to dig deep from around mile 9 but the thought of all our supporters along the last 2 miles kept me going! An incredible experience!"

Paul Russ (Director) "I’ve done a few half marathons before so I should’ve known what I was letting myself in for, but I’d obviously forgotten. It was excrutiating from mile 9 onwards when
the incredible sunny day became too much and all I wanted was a cold shower. That being said it was a great experience, so many people cheering my name, doing their bit to keep me going. I ache now and I’m wondering if I’ll remember how tough it was!"

Jim Hendley (Assistant Producer) "The physical part of the race was tough (incredibly tough actually)  but the hardest thing (apart from the pavement) was the mental challenge that I faced throughout. I'm so glad it's over."

It's all about young dancers with disabilities

Over the last few years Dance4 has been looking at new ways to pull down barriers that young people with disabilities face daily in the dance industry.  After commissioning research, delivering workshops and generally starting many conversations, we've been steadily developing relationships with schools and specialist disability organisations to foster and extend opportunities to young dancers. This year local dance group from Oak Field school in Nottingham were selected to perform during the prestigious U.Dance 2014 national youth dance festival, led by Youth Dance England (YDE).

The money raised by the Dance4 marathon team will go towards continuing and extending this work, with a particular focus in encouraging and supporting young dancers to get involved in the celebrated national U.Dance platforms.

What the team said BEFORE:

Paul Russ Director Dance4 '.... every time I close the door behind me and face the early morning run I'm minded to give up and return to bed zzzzzzz. BUT the motivation that my colleagues are also training hard makes me just get in with it...'

Becky Aram, Programme Producer '...Having to take three weeks out for a injury has put me back slightly but I am excited about the challenge ahead. My main tip: Do not trust google advice on how to get rid of a stitch!

Heather Forknell, Programme Intern '...Twenty minutes' cardio training in the living room, plus some cool down yoga and the occasional evening run has made me feel so much healthier. It's been wonderful hearing all the different training routines of my colleagues and knowing that we're all in this together and aiming to raise money for a great cause.'

Jim Hendly, Assistant Producer '...I can't think of a time when I have been so mentally and physically challenged. Committing to a training plan alongside a busy job has been really tough -  almost as tough as the early morning runs and aching knees. The thing that has pulled me though is our team and some friendly competition.'
