Open Studio: Theo Clinkard (UK) & Sally Doughty (UK)
This Bright Field
Conceived for a cast of 12 dancers and set to live music, this new company work follows recent large scale commissions for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and Danza Contemporanea de Cuba.
Theo's creation process will further his interest in the bridging potential between role of the observer and observed, asking how we, as witnesses to the performed act, could experience dance through our own bodies. In turn, Theo will be working with a company to establish how their sensorial perception of their bodies, the space, the audience and each other informed and empowers their dancing. His aim with this work is to uniquely activate both performer and audience through use of scale and perspective and celebrate the subjective experience of the shared act.
Sally Doughty and Pete Shenton use their individual and shared memories to weave together dancing, talking, some more dancing and maybe some singing in this improvised performance, Renaissance. Made for larger scale venues, Renaissance challenges sterotypical notions of what improvised dance performance is and where it is performed. It is witty, thought provoking and beautiful, if Sally's and Pete's memories serve them well...
