Developing practice with communities of Leicester
In 2012 international choreographer Vanessa Grasse created Routes, a first experiences walk by local residents in Leicester. The work was supported by Public Health Leicester City (formerly NHS Leicester) demonstrating Dance4's partnership working.

The support for the project came from Dance 4's long-term membership and support for the Leicester City Physical Activity sub-group, which brings together a number of agencies and organisations working in Leicester City to support a broader agenda working towards physical health and wellbeing.

Vanessa Grasse worked with residents from the Belgrave area of Leicester to collect stories  to create a choreographed walk as part of Big Dance 2012.  The walk took particpants up the famous 'Golden Mile' and through the main community park in the area.

Vanessa combines ideas from her creative practice movement and improvisation background to create imaginative ways to approach walking.

Routes continues to develop as a piece of dance/choreography and Vanessa has been visiting Leicester since July 2012 to lead training in creative walking practice with volunteer walk leaders and as part of the 2013 Belgrave Health and Wellbeing event.
