Artist Commissions
We commission work on an annual basis. These commissions are offered by our Director, Paul Russ, following detailed dialogue with an artist about their work and the development of their practice. Commissioned work is then usually presented as part of the nottdance festival.
Commissions for 2008/09 are:
• Lone Twin (UK): along with Dance East and Saddlers Wells, we are supporting Lone Twin (Gary Winters and Gregg Whelan) who will be working alongside choreographer Jane Mason to create a social dance project Street Dance (nottdance09 brochure: P26) which will feature in nottdance09.
• Hetain Patel (UK): we have recently supported visual artist Hetain Patel to create a full length version of TEN (nottdance09 brochure: P28) which will be part of the nottdance09 programme. Hetain’s most recent work TEN is rooted in a personal exploration of the rich spectrum between British and Indian identities.
• Lapsus Corpi (UK): UK based company Lapsus Corpi were in the studio in 2008 working on their latest piece, which will be featured during nottdance09 – ShowReal (nottdance09 brochure: P28) . A comment on celerity culture, the work will be double billed with Hetain Patel’s TEN.
• Caroline Mueller (UK): Caroline was in the Dance4 studio during the summer, creating frau (nottdance09 brochure: P22). Integrating live movement and video, the work will be presented as part of a work-in-progress double bill during nottdance09.
• Robert Hylton (UK): Robert will be in the Dance4 studio at the end of September, working on a new piece for nottdance09 – I don’t know, what do you think? (nottdance09 brochure: P10). The work see the audience take on the role of co-choreographer, examining processes and choices performer, music, audience and live performance.
Click here for more information on Europe in Motion.• Robin Dingemans (UK / NZ): we supported Robin to develop his latest work Not what I had in Mind, in which he worked with a number of dancers and non-dancers at the Dance4 studio to inform the material in his piece, which was presented as a work in progress in Bucharest, Romania as part of Europe in Motion.
