Human Furniture will be part of Ways of Seeing, Ways of Being which takes place at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery 23 - 24 September 2017.

Dance4, Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Nottingham Castle Trust and dance artist Lucy Suggate are looking for individuals to contribute towards the development of an exciting project taking place at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery 22 – 24 September 2017.

Ways of Seeing, Ways of Being is a weekend of activities to enhance the visitors’ experience of the 19th century picture gallery at Nottingham Castle, using movement to provide a new context for viewing and engaging with the art collection.

We are looking for local people aged 18+ with experience in dance to perform with Lucy Suggate in Human Furniture. This is a performative experience for one audience member at a time. The aim is to expand and support the audience members looking. We will take their body on a journey through space and handle them with care. Some gentle lifting may be involved.

We will need you to be available on the following dates:

·      Taster session Sunday 3 September 2 – 4PM

·      Rehearsals, Tuesday 12 & Tuesday 19 September, 6 – 8PM

·      Performances, Friday 22 (evening only) – Sunday 24 September 2017

The taster session on Sunday 3 September and rehearsal on Tuesday 12  September will be held at Dance4's iC4C, 2 Dakeyne Street, NG3 2AR. The rehearsal on Tuesday 19 September and the performance weekend will take place in the Long Gallery at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, NG1 6EL.

Ideal performers will have:

·      An interest in Lucy Suggate’s, Dance4 and Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery’s work and an enthusiasm for the project.

·      An interest in dance, contemporary performance and visual arts.

·      Previous dance experience.

·      A willingness to work in contact with other performers / audience members.

·      A willingness to lift and be lifted.

·      A mature, reflective and open approach.

·      People who are reliable and have a wish to perform.

·      Availability for the project dates.

·      People in the East Midlands area.

For those taking part in the project, you will receive a small honorarium.

The work invites a small number of participants therefore we ask those interested to fill in the online application form:
