Launch of Sound Painter, Voice-Sense and Shaping Sounds 2 Documentary
Sound Painter: Watch the sounds you make emerge and reverberate around the room as brightly coloured clouds and psychedelic bubbles.
Sound Painter is a new immersive installation for galleries and indoor spaces that uses state of the art acoustic technology to turn vocal sounds into digital clouds, overlaid over live video images of the person making them. It offers new opportunites for people to be visually creative with sound and for deaf people to enhance their appreciation of what sound is.
Sound Painter comes out of the Shaping Sounds 2 research collaboration between performance artist and film-maker Guy Dartnell, deaf choreographer Chisato Minamimura and acoustic specialist Dirk Püschel, the director of Soundtec, creators of the technology that the Sound Painter utilizes.
For further information about Sound Painter, including the attendant performances and voicemotion workshops that go with it, download the Sound Painter pdf at the bottom of page.
Shaping Sounds 2 Documentary: This is the documentary showing the process of research undertaken during the Shaping Sounds 2 project in 2012, including clips from the work-in-progress presentations at Greenwich Dance and the University of Bedfordshire. Go to bottom of page to watch.
Voice-Sense Workshops: These are workshops for deaf and hearing-impaired performers and other professionals interested in developing the 'felt sense' aspect of their voice and it's possible use as a self-made 'soundtrack' for movement. The work is based upon the voice-movement techniques used in Shaping Sounds 2 research project, which can be seen in the documentary. Download the Voice-Sense pdf at the bottom of page.
As part of Dance4's Dance in Galleries season, Guy presented a talk at Backlit Gallery about the body of work. Click here to watch.
