A COMEDY duo which has taken the UK by storm is in Nottingham this month to perform a premiere of their new show – which includes a cast of over 30 community performers and professional dancers from around the city.

New Art Club, which consists of award-winning dancing comedy duo Tom Roden and Pete Shenton, will perform a Hercules: A Dance Cabaret at Nottingham Playhouse on 17 May.

Hercules sees the legendary story of Hercules re-told through hilarious dance routines and amazing speciality acts. Tom and Pete give a modern twist to the story of Hercules, turning it into a side-splitting performance which incorporates a history lesson, a pantomime and a party rolled into one.

The show includes a cast of a range of community performers and a range of professional local dancers from around Nottingham, which have been brought together by Tom and Pete through a series of evening events.

Hercules has been commissioned and co-produced by Dance4, an international dance organisation based in Nottingham, which commissions, produces and presents extraordinary dance performances and actively encourages people of all backgrounds to engage in and enjoy dance.

Paul Russ, chief executive of Dance4, said: “Hercules is a fantastic show that people of all ages will enjoy, and it’s wonderful to be working with Tom and Pete.

“It’s great to see so many motivated and adventurous dancers from around Nottinghamshire take to the stage at Nottingham Playhouse, shake their tail feathers and be part of this life-affirming, family-friendly laugh-a-minute show.”

Ahead of the premiere performance at Nottingham Playhouse, the comedy duo have invited hundreds of lucky pupils from local primary schools to a special free preview of the show on 16 May.

Schools involved include Netherfield Primary School, Oakfield School in Bilborough, Sneinton Primary School, and Robin Hood Primary School in Mansfield.

Tom Roden, of New Art Club, said: “It’s so wonderful to be able to visit one of the schools and work with the children - who are all extremely excited to be seeing the show.”

Hercules has been co-produced by Dance4 along with New Art Club and Nottingham Playhouse, and supported by Arts Council England.

Hercules will be performed at Nottingham Playhouse on Saturday 17 May at 7pm. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions), or a family ticket is available for £30. For more information, visit www.dance4.co.uk
