Supporting Creative Processes and Thinking
For over 25 years Dance4 has supported dance artists and performance makers working with choreography through a programme of residencies.

These residencies offer artists the space and time to create new work, investigate ideas and take risks in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Previous artists have included Rosemary Butcher, Nigel Charnock, Wendy Houstoun, Wayne McGregor to name just a few.

‘Over the years I have had the chance to work on a few Dance4 residencies. Each time I have felt an unusual amount of freedom that I don’t really associate with England. Attention to practical aspects of making work. Relaxed trust in the endeavour. A hands off but truly meant support for the artist and their work, a sense of humour and calm discussion of the work to date and being treated like a grown up.’
- Wendy Houstoun, Choreographer.

Our residency opportunities are offered to regional, national and international artists providing a space to think, create and try out new ideas. During these residencies many artists are delighted to share what they have been doing by opening uo the studio towards the end of their residency and inviting audiences to ‘sharings’ where you can see the work in development and have the opportunity to discuss it.

If you are interested in coming along to these open sessions please sign up to Dance4’s mailing list or check out the website for details of these sharings.
