Fantastic flashmob at the Spark Children's Arts Festival

Guthlaxton Young Leaders

Young leaders from Guthlaxton College have been working hard over the past few months to organise and manage the event. They commissioned young choreographer Rachel Farrer to devise the piece based on chinese whispers. Rachel worked with four schools from Leicestershire; Abington Primary, Bushloe High School, Waterleys Primary, and South Wigston High School, who came together on the day and delighted the audience with a spectacular performance.

Schools Pledge 2012 update

Dancers across E Midlands support record attempt

Having taken place on the day the Olympic Torch arrived in the UK, the Schools Pledge was part of the Big Dance programme which runs throughout the summer. 

One participant enthused: "It's a once in a lifetime's chance to be part of a world record attempt."

As well as schools across the region taking part, there were central locations in Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln, Derby and Corby where people came together to share the excitement. People also participated from as far afield as Lebanan, China and Venezuela!

Big Dance – Big Record Attempt on Friday 18 May 2012

Organised by artsNK in partnership with Lincoln College, this event is part of the Big Dance Schools Pledge and a major part of the Big Dance programme in the East Midlands. It is particularly exciting in that this mass record attempt will be the only one held in Lincolnshire.

Ellesmere Young Leaders

Ellesmere College young leaders have been working hard at Embrace Arts in Leicester to devise a day of dance which is being held on the 17th May. The group have been working alongside Marianne Pape at Embrace Arts and Kirsten Jeavons from Dance4 to research, develop, deliver and evaluate their own project, looking at how they can engage other young people in dance of all abilities.

Participants from the Belgrave and Braunstone communities in Leicester were led through a creative process of outdoor walking, listening and observing, recording sounds, discovering hidden places and sharing views with the local area and community.
