My Dance Festival

An insight to the My Dance Festival last weekend and the preparation that went into creating our pieces.

On Tuesday 2nd-Friday 5th April, we had the Dance4CAT Easter Choreographic Intensive, and what an incredible week it was! We had two fantastic visiting artists, Vanessa Cook for Group 1 and Aoi Nakamura, who throughout the week pushed us to be the best that we possibly could be both physically and mentally. I think I can safely say that us CAT students had enormous fun working with them both to create a 2 fantastic pieces for each group to be proud of and that we performed at the My Dance Festival at Nottingham Playhouse last Saturday (20th April 2013). Thankfully, both pieces went the best they could have with no mistakes and full-on energy from all of us dancers. It was nice to know that all the blood sweat and tears paid off so well! The My Dance Festival went down a storm! There was a fantastic range of diverse pieces from both the East and West Midlands. Luckily for us CAT students, because we were guest performers, the pressure of the competition element of the Festival wasn't on us, so we could relax, perform at our best and watch the competition of the East V West performers! Both were absolutely exceptional and unique in more ways than you can imagine. The winners who are now through to the national platform are: Liquid, Perception, Modas and 2Faced, all fully deserving of the honour of competing in the national platform. Congratulations to them all and also congratulations to the CAT students, you did yourselves proud!
