What is CAT?
Dance4's Centre for Advanced Training in Dance is a dedicated part time training programme created to nurture and support aspiring and talented young people with an interest in dance, helping them to fulfill their potential as professional dance artists.
Who is CAT for?
Dance4’s CAT provides access to world-class training opportunities and spaces for young people aged between 11-18 years with exceptional potential in dance. Interested young people do not necessarily need to have a lot of previous experience of dance. Instead we are looking for enthusiastic, ambitious and determined young people with an interest in pursuing a career in dance.
Dance4's Centre for Avanced Training is a fully inclusive programme and support is available for young people with disabilities or those who may have additional access needs.
What does it involve?
Core curriculum classes are held on Saturdays during term time and intensive projects in school holidays. Students also access a mid-week training session in one of the established local youth dance companies that we support.
Students have the opportunity to work with some of the UK’s most inspiring dance professionals as well as collaborating with international dance artists to explore various classical and contemporaray tachniques alongside choreography and creative processes.
There are opportunities to perform throughout the year as well as visiting theatres to see some of the leading professional performance companies touring the UK.
Where will it lead?
Students and their families are given in depth advice about vocational Schools, Universities and Colleges that specialise in dance nationally and internationally. Students who are preparing to leave the programme at 16 or 18 years participate in an Audition Tool Kit course – which prepares them for the application and audition process. Advice and support is readily available for all students to help them identify which higher education programme best meets their needs. Dance4 CAT graduates have gone on to further their dance training at institutions such as;
London Contemporary Dance School
The Northern School of Contemporary Dance
and have gone on to have professional careers with companies such as Tavaziva Dance Company, Luca Silvestrini's Protein Dance and 2Faced Dance Company.
