Sportivate Dance Makers Northamptonshire

A development for young dancers and dance makers
Working closely with Northamptonshire Sport, Dance4 have been able to secure funding through Sport Englands ‘Sportivate’ programme to support young people from across Northamptonshire to increase access to dance in their local communities.

The funding awarded to Dance4 will see up to 15 new dance groups developed in local schools and venues across the county from September 2013.

The groups lead by local dance artists will each receive 8 free contemporary dance classes.  Dance4 has been working with partners in each area of the county to ensure that  on completion of the free classes the young people are then able to access regular, high quality participatory dance opportunities.

In Northampton Dance4 are working closely with the Royal and Derngate to support their new Youth Dance Company and ensure young people enaged in the Sportivate funded programme from the local area can join. This is being replicated in the Wellingborough and East Northants area with The Castle and in Corby, Oudle and Thrapston working closely with The Core.  Developments are in place for Kettering, Daventry and South Northants – working closely with local dance teachers, local authorities and schools.

It is the ambition of the programme to develop close links to Dance4’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme – ensuring young people have the opportunity to experience the CAT programme through outreach workshops
